Hey guess what! Not only did I plant some yellow mums last weekend, we finally got that CUTE new front door installed and I painted it yellow!
There were a couple of reasons behind the front door swap. Our old door was in good enough condition, but it didn’t have a deadbolt, which is a little scary and made us nervous. Since it was a steel door, installing a deadbolt was not an option. Also, it didn’t have a window or peephole of any sort. So we knew we wanted a contemporary-looking door with a deadbolt and a window, since our living room skews a bit on the dark side and needs any extra light it can get.
We settled on this Jeld-Wen number from Home Depot, and I bought a quart of Valspar Duramax exterior semi-gloss paint-and-primer-in-one in Full Sun (from the Valspar Eddie Bauer Collection).
Of course, this project isn’t finished. We are still working to replace and repaint the trim around the door – both interior and exterior. And we opted to keep our storm door for a multitude of reasons, but I will be giving the aluminum edging around it a fresh coat of white paint.I just could not wait another day to show off my new yellow front door!
Let’s look back at the front porch’s progress over time, shall we?
When we purchased the house in March 2011…
After moving in, cleaning up the yard and getting a new roof…
And now! Post-landscaping and with the new front door! Looks like I need some porch furniture ASAP!

This looks so great! It’s such a happy porch! xo.
