Opening New Doors in 2012

I know what you’re thinking. If you read any blogs at all, you’re probably expecting me to write a lengthy post about how great 2011 was and how I hope to carry that awesomeness into 2012 by trying new things – “opening new doors” if you will.

NOPE. I’m talkin’ about real doors. Cause I got real doors for Christmas.

FIVE OF THEM.

Everyone give a big, collective round of applause for my mom, who sneakily measured the bedroom and bathroom doors while she was watching Lula when Aaron and I went to Dallas.

She explained that six panel doors like these cost about $40 each when you buy them “pre-bored’ which means they already have holes for installing knobs and locks. If you buy them without those holes, they cost closer to $19 each. So she also included a few tools with the gift and plans to teach us how to drill and chisel the holes ourselves. And then she’ll teach us how to install them ourselves.

And soon, we’ll be able to buy the REST of the doors – for closets, etc. – and install them ourselves. We’ve got all the supplies ready to start this weekend hopefully:

– A gallon of Sherwin Williams Alabaster in Semi-Gloss (to match the ceilings, which are also in Alabaster).

– Five privacy knobs with locks, since the doors will be for the three bedrooms and hall bathroom (the master bedroom has two doors).

– Ten pretty silver hinges that aren’t rusty or covered in paint.

– A hole saw to create the hole for the door knob

– A spade bit. I don’t know what this is for. I’ll let you know as soon as I find out. We’ll also need a chisel, but we forgot to get one at the store the other day.

And in case you need a reminder about why I’m sooooooo excited to replace the doors in our house, here’s a refresher on what they currently look like:

So. Five down. Eleven to go. Hey, it’s a start!

So whenever I have a real-person home, both you and my mother will pretty much be doing all this stuff for me. I hope you know that.
