Barn Light Electric Co. has long been a favorite of mine. Their fun-yet-industrial lighting collections always make me drool. But recently, I stumbled upon their collaboration with the creative mind behind designhunterLA, Veronica Valencia.

I can’t deal with how much I love this collection. The mix of bright, happy colors on industrial styles might be my favorite thing ever. I want these lights in every room of my house.

Check out the Barn Light Electric Co. website for more styles. And be sure and take a peek at Veronica’s gorgeous blog (unless you actually need to be productive today, in which case, PUT DOWN THE MOUSE AND BACK AWAY SLOWLY). And if you’re digging the images above, check out the photography blog of Ala Cortez here.

These are just a few of my favorites. I need, I NEED, that yellow pendant hanging above my kitchen sink. Which one is your favorite?

Artful Addition

For years, I’ve struggled with what to put over my piano. A big white mirror? Was going to purchase plastic mirror but couldn’t find the perfect one that time. Plates? Would’ve been cool but never really found the perfect ones. Then, for Christmas, my little brother Evan gave me one of his original art pieces. AND I’M OBSESSED WITH IT.

It was the perfect missing piece for that room. Don’t you love it? He does commission pieces, so leave a comment or send me an email if you’re interested.

The dining room is nearing completion, now that we’ve added drapes and the artwork. I still want to replace the rug with a circular jute rug, and possibly replace the bookshelf with a hutch for china. I just have to find a place to put my books! Crazy to think that it looked like this when we moved in:

a due Colori

Last year, I stumbled upon these high-speed photographs of ink in water taken by artist Alberto Seveso. This particular photo (above) was my computer desktop image for a very long time. I’m so mesmerized by it. Now, Alberto has released a group of similar images using mixed colors, and the results are just too beautiful not to share! See them all here.

Moveable Type

Last Thursday, me and my fill-in photographer (Aaron) went to Electric Heart Tattoos to meet Kyle Durrie, see her cool Type Truck and hang out with some cool folks for the Moveable Type event.

This is Kyle. We jumped right onto her truck-turned-studio and she showed me how to do a little letterpressin’.

And there you have it. I had something to take home that I will most definitely be framing for my gallery wall.

Big thanks to Christie and Caleb of Roll & Tumble Press and Electric Heart for hosting the event! And if you’re looking for local- or hand-made gifts for Christmas, both Christie and Kyle offer some great options in their Etsy shops.

Astro-calypse!

By now, you’ve probably heard that you are no longer the astrology sign that you once were. And by now, you’ve probably also heard that whoever said that was wrong.

Or you haven’t heard anything about it and don’t have a clue what I’m talking about.

Long story short: Someone said the earth’s alignment had changed, meaning our relationship to the stars had changed and thus, our astrological signs. Then someone else came back and said it’s not the stars that are our markers, it’s the equinoxes and the solstices!

DUH!

Read more here if my scientific explanation was way over your head.

In the meantime, I thought this Vogue UK spread was not only amazing but totally appropriate with all the hubbub. Enjoy!
